Zheng Yang studied violin under Michael Ma and received his Masters in Music Degree with distinction from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. During his studies he won the Academy Concerto Competition on two occasions and performed as concertmaster of the Academy Symphony Orchestra and as the first violinist of the Gloucester String Quartet. Zheng Yang has performed at the Hong Kong Arts Festival and at a number of masterclasses with acclaimed violinists including Sylvia Rosenberg, Donald Weilerstein, Earl Carlyss, Günter Pichler, Gerhard Schulz, James Dunham, Ning Feng, Cho-Liang Lin, Leonidas Kavakos and Renaud Capuçon. In 2011 and 2012 he performed at the Kent/Blossom Music Festival with The Cleveland Orchestra. Zheng Yang is a devoted chamber musician. Since 2013 he has been performing with the Gloucester String Quartet who won first prize at the Schoenfeld International String Competition and toured the UK in 2015. In 2016 the quartet collaborated with the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble to participate at the Tongyeong International Music Festival. The quartet has also participated in the McGill International String Quartet Academy in Montreal, at the Aspen Music Festival and School in Colorado on full scholarship and at a concert series in London to celebrate the 20th anniversary of th establishment of the HKSAR. Zheng Yang is currently coaching chamber music and teaching violin at the Junior Department of the The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. He joined City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong in 2018.
