Jonathan Yuen, violin
Jonathan Yuen started his music education at the age of three under the guidance of his mother. At the age of six he entered the Junior Associate Programme at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts where he studied violin with Lo Chu-Tung. While studying at the Diocesan Boys’ School he served as the concertmaster of the Senior String Orchestra and as a member of the renowned Diocesan Boys’ School Choir. He is the recipient of numerous prizes in Hong Kong including the Sandra Wagstaff String Concerto Competition. Jonathan Yuen furthered his violin studies in the USA on a scholarship with Blair Milton from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He received his Bachelors Degree in violin performance from the University of Michigan and a Master of Music from Northwestern University. During his studies abroad he worked with many of the best training orchestras in America including the National Repertory Orchestra and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. After returning to Hong Kong he served as a tutti violinist with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta for four years. In 2016 Jonathan Yuen joined CCOHK as a core player. Besides performing he is also dedicated to teaching the violin in Hong Kong.
