Clement Wong, clarinet
Clement Wong is a Hong Kong-bred clarinet performer. He studied clarinet with Martin Choi at the Hong Kong Baptist University and went on to obtain his Diploma and Advanced Diploma at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts where he studied under the tuterlage of Mr. John Schertle, assistant principal clarinetist in the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. As a student he was chosen to join the Asian Youth Orchestra and toured many Asian countries in 2001. In 2007 he won the Concerto Competition at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts performing the Copland Clarinet Concerto. Upon graduation from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Clement received a scholarship to study at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where he received his Bachelor degree in 2009 studying with Ben Friemuth and Luis Beaz, members of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. In 2006 Clement was appointed the principal clarinettist of the famous Broadway Show Phantom of the Opera for the Hong Kong session staged at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre's Grand Theatre. He is currently the Conductor, Concertmaster and the Principal Clarinetist of the Hong Kong Symphonic Winds. He joined the City Chamber Orchestra as tutti clarinetist in 2010.
